| The second portion of the testing procedure is the physical exam, also known as the P.O.W.E.R. test or Police Officer Wellness Evaluation Report. The physical ability test will take place on July 19, 2008. Check in will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. The test will be conducted at the Illinois College Bruner Fitness and Recreation Center, located at 1121 Edgehill Road. Enter the fitness center through the main doors, located on Edgehill Road. Applicants must present a photo identification to gain entrance to the test. The POWER test portion of this website will explain to you what standards need to be met in order to pass this test. You must pass each segment to successfully complete the test. Clothing should be worn that is conducive to strenuous physical activity. Shower facilities are available; however, participants must provide their own toiletries and towels. Applicants will be required to sign a General Release and Waiver prior to participating in the physical ability test. Only those applicants who pass the physical ability test will be eligible to take the written test. |
The third portion of the testing process is the written examination. You will be mailed a booklet which you need to review, study and memorize in order to take this test. The written test will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2008 beginning promptly at 1:30 p.m. The test will be conducted at Illinois College, Kirby Learning Center, located at 1112 Mound Avenue. You must attend the written test on this date and time; there will not be a makeup test. Photo identification will be required to register for the written test. |
| The fourth portion of the testing process, after passing the written examination, is the Oral Interview with the Board of Police and Fire Commissioners. The dates for the oral interviews will be announced. After the interviews are completed, scores from each applicant will be tallied and applicants will be placed on an eligibility list according to scores. Applicants will then have to fill out a complete application including prior job history, personal references, schooling and any military. Applicants with a Bachelor's degree, Associates Degree, or prior police and/or military experience will be awarded an additional 5 points towards their score. A final eligibility list will be posted after all scores have been totaled, then follows the psychological examination, background check, and medical examination. The medical examination checks for: general health, chest x-ray, urinalysis, hematology, substance abuse panel, eye examination, and hearing examination. |
