Citizen's Police Academy
Once again, the Jacksonville Police Department is offering the Citizen's Police Academy to members of our community.  The goal of the Citizen's Police Academy is to not only help the local residents better understand police work in their community, but also to develop stronger ties between the community and their police agency in an effort to better address crime issues.  It is through community cooperation and planning that we can best ensure quality police serves in an organized and effective crime prevention program.
The Citizen's Police Academy is a ten-week program with the classes being held on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m, at the Municipal Building, 200 West Douglas.  Each evening of instruction will cover different aspects of the law enforcement profession.  There will be a spring and fall academy class each year.
Jacksonville Police Department personnel will present the instruction during the Citizen's Police Academy with an occasional outside speaker.  Some of the relevant topics that will be covered are:  Criminal Code, Vehicle Code, Gangs, DUI Enforcement, Firearms, Domestic Battery, and Use of Force.  There will be hands-on training as well as simulated practical situations for the students to get a first-hand experience of law enforcement.
There will be a graduation dinner at the complete of the ten-week program and certificates issued to those who have met all requirements.  Students must attend eight out of the ten weekly classes to successfully complete the program.  There is no cost to the students to participate in the Citizen's Police Academy.
